Susan Muwonge, Uganda’s celebrated rally driver, is making a powerful return to the rally scene as she prepares to compete in the upcoming Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally Championship due 8th-10th May 2025 in Mbarara. Known for her unmatched courage and skill, Susan, also known as “Super Lady,” will once again face off against an all-male field — but she’s more than ready.
“I’m not scared. My goal is to put up a good performance.,” she confidently stated.
Susan made history as a two-time National Rally Champion, first taking the crown in 2011 in a Subaru N10 sponsored by Kobil. She won another title in 2018, this time in a Subaru Impreza N12B, supported closely by her husband Mr. Lawrence Muwonge. The name Muwonge, both on and off the track has become one of the most respected in Ugandan motorsport and Motorcross.
Nicknamed the “Woman of Steel,” Susan is not only a motorsport icon but also a dedicated mother. Her son, Filbert Muwonge, followed in her competitive footsteps and became the national MX50cc motocross champion in 2021 and 2022. Now, she stands proudly as both a champion and the mother of a champion. Filbert currently, is a pupil at St. Francis Junior School Buddo.
Beyond the track, Susan is an entrepreneur and educator. She is the proud Director of St. Francis Junior School Buddo, a respected institution known for academic excellence and nurturing young talent.
As she returns to rallying, her eyes are set on a worthy performance in Mbarara. The rally speed queen is once again proving that determination, passion, and resilience can drive success — whether in motorsport, motherhood, or education.
