In the thrilling world of motorsport, where speed meets strategy and passion pushes limits, one name continues to shine in Uganda’s 2WD rally category — Hajji Sadat Anwal Negomba, fondly known as The Eastern Pride and Iganga Star. Since joining the motorsport fraternity in 2014, Sadat has been on a determined journey fueled by unshakable passion, undying regional pride, and an unwavering belief in Toyota cars.
Sadat’s motorsport career kicked off behind the wheel of a Toyota Levin, a vehicle that marked his entry into the demanding world of rally driving. As his confidence and experience grew, so did his love for the Toyota brand. He later transitioned to a Toyota Vitz, then explored the capabilities of a Toyota RunX, before settling with the Toyota Corolla FX—a machine he trusts wholeheartedly. “My love and confidence in Toyota cars is unmatched,” Sadat explains, a statement reflected in his consistent performance and car choices.
Sadat’s debut in a rally car came with a rough start. During one of his early events along the Iganga-Jinja highway, disaster struck when a major accident occurred involving four cars, including his own. Among the affected was fellow driver Eddie Mukiibi, a Honda vehicle and trailer on transport were also involved in the incident. The rally, held across Buwenge, Maga Maga, Kamuli, and Iganga, became a harsh introduction to the risks of the sport. But for Sadat, this nightmare only fueled his resolve. “It was painful, but I never looked back. My love for speed and motorsport is too deep,” he shares.
Behind every successful driver is a strong support system, and for Sadat, the list of sponsors and mentors is both inspiring and heartfelt. He is deeply grateful to Mr. Kisa Kya Katonda, who gifted him his first race car, and Yasin Nasser of Moil, a consistent financial supporter who ensures Sadat never misses a race. He also appreciates the unwavering backing of Mr. Moses Muluuri Kelicho, Mr. Ssenkatuuka of World Wide Movers, Hajji Ismail Waligo of Kyadondo Secondary School, and the Stinger Racing Team’s Timothy Gawaya.
“When you have sponsors who believe in you, your heart is at peace,” Sadat reflects. “The only pressure you carry is to bring results to the table. And that’s what drives me every time I get behind the wheel.”
While the competition in the 2WD category is fierce, Sadat treasures the brotherhood that defines the division. “We support each other on and off the track. Yes, there’s competition, but there’s also deep respect,” he says. Known for his resilience and tactical racing, Sadat is one of the 2WD drivers to watch—capable of putting on a show when it matters most.
Sadat is proud of his roots in Eastern Uganda and wears the nickname Eastern Pride as a badge of honor. “I can’t miss the upcoming event by Eastern Motor Club, where I’m a proud member. Our President, Mr. Kagolo Kees, also called KK, is one of a kind,” he shares. With events spanning areas of Jinja and Kayunga Bugerere, Sadat is fired up to perform for his people.
“Jinja Rally is my favorite,” he says with a smile. “That’s the land of my mentor. We are ready to defend our legacy and raise the Eastern flag high.”
Sadat has also represented Uganda internationally, racing in Rwanda and Tanzania, gaining both confidence and experience against top-tier competition. He now sets his sights on the Bugerere STABEX EMC Rally 10th to 12th July, ready to take on the 2WD category with full force and a winning mindset.
Sadat closes with words of encouragement for the next generation: “To those dreaming of joining motorsport—don’t quit. You either accept to become mad for the sport, or find the money to fuel your passion. Keep pushing.”
He also extends heartfelt thanks to his mechanical team, manager, bosses, and family, whose sacrifices keep his rally dreams alive.
Sadat Anwal Negomba is not just a rally driver—he is a symbol of determination, resilience, and regional pride. With every turn of the wheel, he carries the hopes of the East and the spirit of a champion.
