Lubowa, Uganda – August 2, 2025 – The engines roared and action surged as Uganda’s most promising karting talents took to the Lubowa Karting Track along Entebbe Road for the second round of the 2025 National Karting Championship. Organized by the Formula One Association of Uganda (FAU), the event attracted 22 determined competitors, all eager to make their mark in what is fast becoming one of Uganda’s most exciting and growing motorsport events.

Now in its second season, the championship is gaining momentum with the unwavering support of motorsport enthusiasts, fans, and stakeholders. Spearheading the development of the sport is FAU President Raymond Mugisha, whose vision is to elevate karting to a premier motorsport platform in Uganda. According to Mugisha, karting not only provides thrilling entertainment but also plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of rally and circuit drivers, many of whom begin their motorsport journey through karting.

With racers laser-focused on victory, the second round did not disappoint. Spectators were treated to thrilling duels, technical driving and impressive displays of sportsmanship. Ibrahim Kyaluzi, who served as Clerk of the Course, brought professionalism and international standards to the event. With strong ties to motorsport circuits in Dubai, Kyaluzi is instrumental in helping Ugandan drivers gain exposure on the global stage.

The Pro Class saw intense competition, with Andrew Matano emerging victorious, securing 20 points after a remarkable performance. Hot on his heels was Kevin Bebeto, the reigning 2024 champion, who finished second with 17 points. David Muhangi completed the podium with a strong third-place finish and 15 points. With the championship race heating up, Bebeto is expected to fight hard to defend his title in the upcoming rounds.

The Junior Class was equally captivating. Kavan Garcha claimed top honors, scoring 20 points after a tactical and consistent race. Close behind was Dylan Kutosi with 17 points, followed by Victor Keija in third with 15 points. The junior category is proving to be a breeding ground for future stars, with fierce competition and evolving talent.

In the Ladies Class, the competition was vibrant and inspiring. Doris Nabakoza emerged as the winner, clinching 20 points. She was followed closely by Tasleem Garcha with 17 points, and Leah in third place with 15 points. The ladies delivered an impressive show of strength and precision, further solidifying their presence in a traditionally male-dominated sport.

A standout moment of the event came from Lucy Kakuru, a fearless and talented 9-year-old racer who competed in the Ladies Class. Despite her young age, Lucy’s determination, confidence, and skill drew admiration from all corners of the karting fraternity. Her performance not only showcased the depth of talent in Uganda but also hinted at a promising future for the sport.

With backing from sponsors like Mountain Dew and Numa Cinema, the championship continues to grow in stature and reach. The third round is scheduled for later this month, again at the Lubowa Karting Track. Anticipation is already building, as drivers prepare for another high-stakes showdown in what promises to be a thrilling 7-round season.

The Formula One Association of Uganda remains steadfast in its commitment to professionalism, development, and international integration. As karting continues to rise in popularity, Uganda is steadily carving out its place on the regional motorsport map.
