The year 1999 is a memorable one for rally enthusiasts-Why? It’s the year Uganda won an African Rally Championship. The Late Charles Muhangi did for the rally fraternity-Driving a Subaru Imprezza code named’Ekitaguriro’, Muhangi won the most coveted title on the continent.
Twenty Six years down the road, Yasin Nasser under Moil rally team is set to unleash his Ford Fiesta rally2 and tame his fellow competitors in the thrilling showdown in Tanzania. Vohra’s Skoda Fabia rally2 is expected to set the pace in Morogoro.
The fifth and final round of the African Rally Championship,Mkwawa Rally of Tanzania, has accelerated the tightest competition stemming from Kenyan driver Samman Vohra,co-driven by Drew Sturrock, who has a knack for winning.This is evidenced by three continental titles under his belt.
The weekend event is neck and neck with Yasin Nasser leading with 118 points while Vohra follows closely with 106 points-It’s only 12 points separating the two. What Yasin needs to do is, finish first or second, and it comes home.
Two time Africa Rally Champion Karen Patel is in with fresh memories of 2023 in Morogoro. It’s where he clinched his first continental title from. This year has not been good for him but he expects to end on a high note with the Morogoro event.
