Rally fans have reasons to smile and celebrate. Why? The continental title is finally home-The rally crew of Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba has clinched the African Rally Championship in the most nerve-wracking style.
The season ending Mkwawa rally of Tanzania which was the fifth and final round of the continental rally, will go down in history as an event that had put tenterhooks on fans.
Kenyan driver Samman Vohra took day one as Yasin Nasser settled for fourth position. On the final day, it was a calculated approach from the Moil team. Double continental champion Karan Patel reminisced 2023 memories when he won his maiden African title in Morogoro.
The Kenyan snatched the lead from Vohra on Sunday thereby changing the points dynamics. This advantaged Yasin who also had vital power stage points to his name.
At the end of the event, Karan Patel emerged winner, Vohra settled for second as Tanzania’s Ahmed Huwel completed the podium finish. The two-day event had 23 cars with drivers from Tanzaninia, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda.
The event was too tight with Yasin gathering a total of 135 points to Vohra’s 134 respectively. Yasin now enters Uganda’s books as the driver who broke the Africa Rally Championship jinx with the 2025 coveted title. The Late Charles Muhangi and Co.Driver Stephen Byaruhanga had last won the title for the country in 1999. In the end, Ugandans are smiling, the crew is celebrating, and the 26-year-old wait is over.
