The exciting City Tyres East African Badminton championship, now in its eighth edition serves off today at Lugogo Indoor Stadium. Over 1500 participants are taking part in the prestigious championship that climaxes on Sunday 19 September 2025.
With an increased cash prize of UGX 11 million, down from UGX 8 M million last year, the tourney promises to be more competitive for the badminton players.
Stiff competition is expected in different categories right from schools, corporates, universities, coaches, veterans as well as professionals.
In today’s official opening ceremony at Lugogo, Mahad Twaha an official from Mandela Group of Companies, said that the event has drawn participants from many countries, a thing that has stamped the group’s success in sports.
“We have a big number of participants coming from among other countries, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi and hosts Uganda. For those of you who know Mandela Group, it’s not only badminton, but sports in general,” Mahad emphasized.
The event offers players like Olivia Nakajja,Rajab Shamsa Mbira,Adams Asania, Muzafar Lubega, Ian Senoga and Amos Muyanja, an opportunity to showcase their best.
It is powered by City Tyres, Ling long Tyres and Enoc Lubricants respectively.
