A team of Five body builders and Two officials is likely to miss out on the prestigious World Championship event due this weekend in the auditorium Theatre of Salou. The players have been in intensive training ahead of this vital trip, but the question of air tickets is yet to be solved.
The main obstacle to this international trip is lack of funds from National Council of Sports to cater for among other things, air tickets, accommodation, registration and facilitation for the seven-man contingent.
In an exclusive interview with some players, they are willing to represent the country but are not sure if Government through National Council of Sports will release the much-needed funds for the international trip.
Uganda Body Building and Fitness Association officials maintain that the trip is entirely funded by Government and are waiting for official communication from National Council of Sports. By press time, no official communication had been issued.
One player lamented that”, Government is supposed to support national teams but the athletes are suffering and yet training is very expensive”.
With the players ready to represent the country in this competition, the trip hangs in balance and is left to National Council of Sports to bail the team out.
The four body builders are expected to compete in; Men’s bodybuilding as Hilly Isaac takes part in Men’s physique respectively.
Uganda prides in Ivan Byekwaso and Mubarak Kizito who have won top accolades in these world championships.
