The Uganda Cubs have made history in the ongoing Fifa U17 World Cup with a 1-0 hard fought victory over France, thereby securing a place in the knockout stages.
The team, coached by Brian Ssenyondo badly wanted a win having lost the first match 2-1 to Canada and drew 1-1 against Chile.
This was a defining moment for the team that got a breakthrough in the 18th minute when James Bogere slotted the ball at the back of the net to gift Uganda the much-needed win over France.
Uganda finished third in Group K with four points, behind Canada and table leaders France (Four Points) but with a superior goal difference.
The win is a good motivator for the team that carries high momentum ahead of the knock stages in the prestigious tournament in Qatar. Uganda Cubs is set to play Senegal in the round of 32 on 15 November 2025.
