As engines roar and dust kicks up in Mbarara, Uganda, this year’s Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally due 8th-10th May 2025 is not just another motorsport event—it’s a stage for powerful women who are redefining roles in this high-octane world.
From seasoned co-drivers to dynamic journalists and vigilant time and safety marshals, women are making a mark across the spectrum of motorsport in Uganda. They bring not only grit and precision but also a deep strategic intelligence that is reshaping the perception of the sport.
Leading the Charge: Female Co-Drivers
Navigating the unpredictable terrain of rallying demands, razor-sharp memory, and an unshakable partnership with the driver, several standout co-drivers are already in the spotlight:
Mildred Kibuuka, co-driving for Fred Kitaka Busulwa, blends discipline with technical knowledge, proving vital in handling complex rally stages. She brings a wealth of experience in the prestigious event.
Mariam Nambasa, the confident and tactical partner to Isaac Ssozi, brings years of experience and an unrelenting commitment to precision.
Doreen Nabira, co-driving for Mansur Lubega, adds her assertive style to the team’s strategy, ready to face the toughest routes.
Monica Birwinyo, known in entertainment circles as “Momo”, takes on a different kind of stage as Edward Kirumira’s co-driver, showcasing versatility and focus.
Allie Zubedah, teaming with Sadat Negomba, brings fresh energy and a sharp mind to the co-driver seat.
These women aren’t just participants—they are contenders, leaders, and future legends of East African motorsport.
Behind the Scenes: Women at the Helm of Organization and Coverage
It’s not just on the track where women are making waves. Female journalists, time marshals, and safety marshals are essential to the execution and coverage of the rally. Their presence ensures accurate reporting, timing integrity, and above all, the safety of participants and spectators.
These professionals work tirelessly—often in the background—to guarantee that events like the Pearl of Africa Rally are not only thrilling but also efficiently run and secure.
A Movement Gaining Momentum
The inclusion and recognition of women in all motorsport roles is no longer a novelty—it’s a necessary evolution. With Uganda increasingly becoming a motorsport hub in the region, the efforts and achievements of these women signal a powerful message: motorsport is for everyone.
Their presence at this rally is more than symbolic. It is proof that with passion, preparation, and partnership, women can and will conquer every corner of the motorsport world.
As the engines start in Mbarara, one thing is certain: the women of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2025 are not just along for the ride—they’re here to lead it.
