Mayinja Wololo(Promise Tv) and Nasif Ssali(Salt Tv) are two close friends in the sports industry. In every sports event organized, the two always share notes, laugh aloud, joke and practically feast on every conversation, like they are brothers.
On Thursday, August 28, they joined a group of sports journalists at SOM Chess Academy in Makindye to attend a three day training and, acquaint themselves with the skills for chess reporting.
The training that was officially opened by SOM director, Robert Katende, saw participants learn theory and practical aspects of the game.
The director implored the journalists to focus the importance of the game which goes a long way in shaping their careers and earning them revenue especially as international arbiters, players and chess reporters.
“Chess is a very good game. It is easy, wide and has many opportunities for everyone including journalists, “Robert revealed.
Day one of the training was very interesting for the excited team as they embarked on among other things; the chess board, positioning, ranks, files, numbers, letters and pieces.
With an incredible number attending the educative training, program, great strides are expected as the members aim at advancing their careers.
To SOM, the partnership is commendable as it reaches to different categories of people, who are benefiting from the worthy cause. The Academy is a training center dedicated to helping children and adults learn and improve their chess skills.
