On Monday, fans were treated to a good menu of football as Uganda Cranes overcame lowly ranked team Somalia 2-0 in the Group G match of the FIFA 2026 qualifier clash at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
Cranes won it all in the first half with goals from sensational forward Allan Okello and Jude Ssemugabi. The sixth minute saw Okello convert from a penalty after left backAbdul Aziz Kayondo was brought down by Somali defender Abdulle Abdullani in the penalty area.
Jude Ssemugabi tapped home Cranes second goal in the 39th minute after a great combination involving Steven Mukwala and Aziz Kayondo.
Uganda Cranes and Mozambique are leveled on 15 points each, but Cranes has a superior goal difference to cement its second position.
Algeria which was held to a 0-0 stalemate by Guinea maintains the top position on 19 points.
Uganda has two crucial away fixtures against Botswana on 08 October 2025 and Algeria on 11 October 2025 respectively.
