Ugandan motor cross sensational rider Helena Birungi is beaming with excitement after winning the MX 50 CC senior category on Sunday. In an event held at Smart Beach Race Track Mityana, the 9 year old rider beat 12 riders to take the most coveted Central African Championship title.
“I feel proud at winning in Mityana.The track was good, competitive and exciting,” she said.
Helena who studies at Rainbow Christian School Entebbe won all the three heats to garner maximum points in the first round of the CAC event.
“The new bike Dad bought for me was the strong point for this win,Helena revealed”.
To Edison Birungi, the rider’s father; this new bike (a KTM factory 2025 edition) made the right statement to guarantee Helena’s win.
“I had to buy for her a new bike so as to be able to compete favorably”, Edison emphasized.
He believes that Helena has a lot to offer in competitive races both in Uganda and outside the country. The young rider is determined to defend the Africa Junior Championship this year.
“The KTM Bike will provide my daughter with confidence and a competitive edge in races”, he added.
She is sponsored by among others; Encounter Africa Safaris, Africa Fixers Limited and the Uganda Parliamentary Commission which recently contributed a sponsorship package towards her motocross prowess.
Overall, Uganda won the first round of the CAC with Tanzania finishing second. It also acted as the third round of the National Motocross Championship.
