The 16th edition of the ICPAU Junior woodball championship has been launched today, Tuesday 10th June 2026. In a function held at the Uganda Woodball Federation offices in Balintuma,ICPAU announced a sponsorship package worth 21 million shillings towards the one-day event.
Over 600 participants from more than 100 primary and secondary schools are expected to participate in the prestigious championship slated for Saturday, 13 June 2026, at Kyambogo University Peace Park Grounds.
Kato Adam Juma, the federation’s General Secretary noted that the organizing committee initially planned to host the tournament in Koboko District but due to Ebola concerns, shifted the event to Kampala.
“The championship was initially scheduled to be hosted in Koboko District, West Nile Region.However due to ongoing Ebola-related concerns, the Organizing Committee resolved to relocate the event to Kampala,” Kato emphasized.
ICPAU’s Business Development Manager Lydia Tusiime reaffirmed the organization’s commitment towards uplifting the game from the grassroot.
“We are continuing with our partnership. This is a journey which we started when the sport was barely recognizable. We commend the federation for the growth of the sport particularly the young players,” Lydia said.
World Ahead Secondary School in Matugga hosted last year’s event, in which Our Lady of Africa Secondary School, Namilyango emerged as boys’ champions and Luzira Secondary School triumphed in the girls’ category.
