Good news coming from the Pool Association of Uganda new executive is that the biggest tournament,’ The Nile Special National Pool tournament’ is set for a bigger launch.
Gideon Onyango, the PAU chairman, disclosed this to members of the press during the Annual General Meeting and handover on Saturday 25 July 2026 at Holiday Express Hotel Nakasero.
“We have the National Open which we are actually getting late for. This is because we have been waiting for Nile Breweries to renew our contract and good enough, we already presented our proposal, and our strategic plan for the next five years,” Onyango said.
This year’s event combines elements of uniqueness and competition for both Men and Women. The tournament is arguably Uganda’s most rewarding pool tournament attracting participants from across the country.
Many players including among others; Mansoor Bwanika, Fahad Sewankambo, Turigye Jonah, Ceasar Chandiga, Alfred Gumisiriza, Rita Nimusiima, Kisakye Marion and Rashidah Mutesi have made a mark because of the National Open.
In terms of numbers, it attracts the biggest since players qualify from different regions, with a major ambition of winning. The biggest prize is a car, coupled with other prizes-Cash, Pool tables and other rewards. The event has been held since 2001, and everyone is waiting to witness the best in 2026.
