The Uganda Professional Boxing Commission under Eddy Bazira has filed a case at High Court-Judicial Review Division requesting a review of the boxing sport registration process which saw National Council of Sports recognize Uganda Boxing Federation as one of the eleven national sports bodies eligible for government funding.
Eddie Bazira highlights the issuance of a certificate to UBF as a wrong thing because UPBC was left out yet it is the only body mandated to run professional boxing in the country.
” We as UBF are not happy with the pronouncement by National Council of Sports that UBF has fully complied to become a federation. The body has failed on two occasions to become an association, later alone a federation,” Bazira said.
The Commission which has been in existence since 1988 feels that it has been left out yet it is the body mandated to run professional boxing in the country.
It’s on that basis that they have run to court so as to seek redress on circumstances that led UBF to be registered as a Federation.
The first hearing of the case lodged against National Council of Sports and UBF is set for Thursday 30th July 2026.
Key highlights of the case lodged by UPBC
- Decisions passed by NCS to issue a certificate to UBF, yet they did not comply with the National Sports Act
- Reluctance of the Min of State for Sports to appoint sports arbitrators to manage sports disputes in the country.
- NCS and Min of Sports for not designating a physical place where sports disputes can be resolved.
- The Smuggling of a UBF constitution which doesn’t comply with the National Sports Act cap 151.
- Contestation of Moses Muhangi as UBF president using a wrong constitution.
