Ugandan Football Club, Villa has lost its player David Owori, who was also the club captain. The 27-year-old succumbed to injuries sustained after being hit with a paving stone by suspected thugs near Kibuye Primary School.
Owori passed away at Case Clinic on Wednesday morning where he had been rushed following a violent attack on Tuesday night, near his home. Sources indicate that Owori was physically assaulted by a gang at around 8:00pm.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our Captain David Owori, who has been receiving treatment at Case Clinic following an attack by suspected thugs: Rest in peace Captain, “the club announced in an official statement.
The versatile player born on September 23, 1998, in Tororo to Eriasaf Osinde and Bena Nyadio, started his footballing career at Nsambya Young Stars Academy before moving to Wembley Soccer Academy and Lukuli United.
In 2016, moved to Vipers before initially settling at SC Villa in 2018. He spent three years at Villa after which he went to Europe for brief stints with Spanish side Velez (2021-2022) and Utsiktens BK from Sweden (2022-2023)
Owori, rejoined Villa in 2023 and helped the team win its 17th Uganda Premier League title in 2024. His last appearance for the club was on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as Villa drew 1-1 against Maroon FC in the first leg of the FUFA Super 8 quarter Finals.
