Uganda’s U-19 cricket side, ’The Baby Cranes’, departs tomorrow Friday, August 7, ahead of the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier, set for August 7-16 in Kigali Rwanda.
Chebet Milton, the Assistant General Secretary-Technical at National Council of Sports, flagged off the 14-man squad on Thursday August 6, 2026, at Lugogo.
The sports administrator delivered a message of encouragement to the young stars, who are aiming to secure a berth at the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
“I want to believe that you are going to shine. Know that you are carrying the aspirations of Uganda and you have represented millions of Ugandans,” Chebet said.
The Head Coach Grace Mutyagaba believes the boys are ready and have one mission,’Return to Division One’. We have prepared well as a team, had trial matches and the boys are in good shape,” Grace emphasized.
Baby Cranes captain Daniel Rubangakane nods in approval that this tournament is vital for the team as they quest for the World Cup.” Our main goal is to qualify for the World Cup and make Uganda proud,” Daniel asserted.
Uganda, which has previously qualified for the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup three times, faces Nigeria on August 9 before Mozambique (August 10), Ghana (August 12), Sierra Leone (August 13) and hosts Rwanda (August 15)
Three venues, Gahanga Main Ground, Gahanga B Oval and the IPRC Cricket Oval will be used for the World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier campaign.
