Southern Motor Club riders have a reason to smile. The club on Monday September 7, 2026, gave the young riders a token of appreciation for their superb performance in Windhoek Namibia.
At a luncheon organized at Viga Sports Lounge by rally driver and SMC patron Ponsiano Lwakataka, the excited performers, each received something special.
Lwakataka said that these riders need motivation so as to be able to shine locally and internationally.” As a club, we motivated our riders before they left and now that they are back, we have done it again. We shall continue motivating them because, they represent SMC,”Ponsiano added.
The club president Mayanja Godfrey revealed that SMC is synonymous with champions.” SMC is a club of champions, the reason our performance in motorsport is high,” Mayanja said.
Ariela Katende, the 50CC African champion, asserted that this feat is the biggest thing in her motorcross career and promises more, especially with the Garuga event due September 20, 2026.
“The performance was great for my career, and much appreciation goes to Daddy, who has been training us. In Garuga, it will be different with more vibe,” Ariela noted.
The father, George Semakula nods in approval.” My daughter has worked for it. It didn’t come as a surprise. I am very proud of her, and I believe, more is yet to come, “George agreed in totality.
In total seven riders from SMC were part of the 34 riders, who represented the country in the FIM Africa Motorcross of African Nations.
The event took place at Gallina Motocross Park in Windhoek, Namibia on 29th and 30th August 2026. Uganda managed to secure third position as South Africa and Namibia finished first and second respectively.
