The two separate bodies met on Tuesday September 1, 2026, with one mission; unity in boxing. The joint meeting of Uganda Professional Boxing Commission and Uganda Boxing Federation interim went on well with the two sides agreeing to work together for the betterment of boxing in the country.
The Interim chairman of Uganda Boxing Federation Sam Rukundo highlighted that they are ready to move with UPBC so that boxing gains its glory in the country.
“We have started on a good note especially with the recently held activity,the Raw Boxing Sparring Night. Fans in Wandegeya were impressed by the boxers’talents,”Rukundo noted.
Uganda Professional Boxing Commission president Eddy Bazira is optimistic that the future is bright for the boxing community, as it is now in the right hands with passionate leaders at the forefront.
The Tuesday joint meeting is the first of its kind, for the two groups, whose core aim is to see to it that amateur and professional boxers benefit immensely.
“As UPBC, we are on the right track and we have already sanctioned the MK legacy fight that is set for end of September 2026 at Kololo Independence grounds as well as the Inter-City Fight Night in Jinja on 26 September 2026,” Bazira revealed.
Bazira said that professional boxers need to fight so as to earn and UBF has been frustrating their efforts, but the good thing is that UPBC has the mandate to run professional boxing in the country.
On the same occasion, boxing legend Justin Juuko who jetted into the country on Monday said that Muhangi Kapere Moses needs to show cause for the bombers’ poor performance in Scotland at the Commonwealth games.
Juuko,who won a gold medal at the 1990 Commonwealth games in Auckland New Zealand was rather dismayed by the poor performance saying that it goes back to the leadership which hasn’t done enough to uplift boxing at the international level.
“Uganda has made a name in boxing, but the sports discipline is on a downfall because of Muhangi’s leadership,”Juuko said.
The two bodies have agreed to work together for the good of the sport, which has seen many talented pugilists earn local and international fame.
