Special Tribute to Sydney Gongodyo
The ForteBet Real Stars Awards agency paid tribute to the late Sydney Gongodyo, the 27-year-old Uganda Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates forward who tragically lost his life in a vigilante attack in Bukoto, Kampala, on June 5, 2026.
The special award was presented in recognition of Gongodyo’s dedication, passion, and contribution to the growth of rugby in Uganda, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Allan Okello Named Football Player of the Month
Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello was voted Football Player of the Month following another outstanding spell with Young Africans (Yanga SC) in Tanzania.
Okello played a pivotal role in helping Yanga secure the Tanzania Premier League title after finishing the season with an impressive 14 goals and eight assists.
His standout performance came during the month when he scored a brilliant hat-trick against Tanzania Revenue Authority FC, further cementing his status as one of East Africa’s top footballers.
Hassan Alwi Wins Rally Award
Rally driver Hassan Alwi walked away with the Rally Driver of the Month accolade after producing another dominant display at the KCB Masaka Rally in Sembabule.
Alwi overcame stiff competition from Jonas Kansiime and Duncan Mubiru to secure victory.
The triumph followed his earlier success in the opening round of the National Rally Championship in Mbale, allowing him to maintain his lead at the top of the championship standings.
Ukasha Matovu Crowned Boxing Star
Boxer Ukasha Matovu earned the Boxing Award after making a sensational return to the Uganda Boxing Champions League.
Competing in Season Five, Matovu announced his comeback in style by knocking out Isaac Kasasa of Katabi Boxing Club, a performance that earned him the month’s top boxing honour.
Yasin Wasswa Takes Rugby Honour
Toyota Buffaloes’ Yasin Wasswa was named Rugby Player of the Month following his outstanding display in the Uganda Rugby Premiership final.
Although Buffaloes narrowly lost 30-29 to Stanbic Black Pirates, Wasswa delivered an exceptional individual performance, scoring 19 points and earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the final.
His leadership and consistency throughout the match made him the standout rugby performer for the month.
